This is a basic website unlike the many others created by Tony. It is not designed to do anything in particular except for me to use as I might feel fit at times. It's a bit like my personal reminder that the web does not stand still. I'm investigating and investing in CPA sites more and more for example.
You may find I use it as a type of blog now and again but not in the normal blogging sense.
It will also contain links to websites I've had a hand in. My latest website is one I've wanted to create for a while. I made the first step by buying a Garmin GPS 60CS in December last year. This has allowed me to start the project ... I intend to drive all the publicly accessible roads in the Kruger National Park during this next 12 months and create (hopefully) interesting pages that people around the world will be able to enjoy even if they cannot make this "trip of a lifetime". The website is called The Kruger
I've just completed my 5th project visit to Kruger and have made good progress in my reporting of the many wonderful and inspiring sights I've seen. How lucky I consider myself to have a "job" like this ... I've seen crocodile kills, leopard kills, and in a way the most interesting of them all; I saw a Southern Ground Hornbill slay a large Monitor Lizard. I even met Elvis at the Babalala Picnic spot one day.
If anybody reads this and would like to submit their own Kruger stories I would be pleased to publish them (if original and unique) on my site and include full details of the author ... I would create a page dedicated to the author and the story. My contact +27-11-454-0105 or email roocroft(at)iafrica.com of course replace (at) with @.
In November 2005 I made a major decision and that was to migrate all my many websites (about 140 at time of writing) to my own server. For me this was no simple decision because I do not understand hosting and servers at all well. With the help of a server management company and great support from the server company itself (which is based in the US by the way) I'm making good steady progress on this big job. NOW FINISHED (January 2006) and I'm happy.
Around May 2006 we started to change all of our website designs to completely CSS based content ... ie no tables used in designs. This was done to create faster loads, better site design and layout along with improved usability. This change also made it easier and quicker to create new sites. This has made a dramatic difference to our internal capability. It has also allowed us to create a new free virtual sales office opportunity.
In August 2006 I made another major decision and that was to get a bells and whistles site created using Wordpress so that I could introduce more interactivity to my sites. I commissioned an UK company to design this site for me and to use one of my large sites for the change-over. It was The Kruger site and I must say I am excited with the outcome.
Talking of easy if anybody comes across this site then be encouraged by my own efforts ... it's a lot easier that you might think to get web sites up and running. Sure there's a learning curve but its not as painful as many would have you believe.
Another recent effort has been to create a more comprehensive website about water gardening. This was an effort to sort out my pages and my own thinking too. The navigation for example on this new site called The Pond Professor will be a lot better and simpler to use. Another recent site was Perfect Pond Keeping
By the time I've finished it will be well over 1,000 pages.
My sons Gareth and Sean have taken an interest in web site creation and here are there efforts to date ... very good they are too
South African Game Reserves and The Cricketer by Gareth
Garden pond pumps and Garden pond filters by Sean who lives in UK
I always recommend this UK company for pond supplies
A new exciting area is just opening up here in Souh Africa ... VoIP or Voice Over Internet
Garden Joy is doing well now.
